SURFING THE WEB
Get Your Email Anywhere

By:  Dick Travis

Using the web to retrieve your email is a popular way to get your email no matter where you might be.  Through the use of web services we can now keep current with our email even when traveling or using a friend’s computer.

Email has become  a daily routine in many people’s lives. When access to your email  is disrupted by travel, long getaway weekends or just visiting with friends or relatives, we sometimes feel lost and frustrated because we don’t have the ability to receive or send email messages to friends.

Most internet service providers have provided a FREE alternative on the web to solve this problem.

For example, if you can get to a computer and access the internet when you are out-of-town or at a friend’s home—you will be able to read and reply to your email—just like you do at home.  There are quite a few web services that provide this service--the easiest is WEBMAIL.

Once you are on the internet, simply type in “webmail” followed by your particular internet service provider into the address field of the browser.  A few examples would be “webmail.aol.com” or “webmail.earthlink.net” or “webmail.cox.net” or “webmail.adnc.com”.

This will cause the browser to connect to your particular internet service provider’s mail system, whereby you will simply enter your “usercode” and “password”.  From there it is almost the same as being home.  The style and form of the screen may look slightly different from your home computer, but all the functions are still available.  Try it—you will be surprised how convenient and easy it is.

There are other services such as MAIL2WEB which are similar to WEBMAIL, but I have found that WEBMAIL works with almost every internet service provider.
If you are already using a web-based email service such as hotmail or yahoo, you do not have to use webmail to access your mail since it is already web-based.  The computer you are using must have cookies and javascript enabled, but most computers are set up this way as a default.

So, feel free to access your email anywhere, anytime through the FREE services of MAILWEB and your internet service provider.  Communication by email is another convenient and fast service provided through the World Wide Web.
