Steps to Edit a Home Page
(or any page)
-
Use any edit program you like
to edit the page, such as Netscape Composer, Microsoft Frontpage Editor,
Homesite or even Notepad. Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher
and many other word processors now have HTML conversion as a regular feature.
-
This page is being edited by
Netscape Composer
-
To edit your page open your page
with the OPEN PAGE or similar parameter usually under the FILE area.
-
For editing text--simply move
your cursor to the desired spot and type or delete text you don't want
by highlighting first.
-
When finished...File/Save AS...IF
you want to rename your file.
-
Usually you can just File/Save
since normally you won't change the name of the file.
-
To add pictures, place your cursor
where you want the picture and hit Image/Browse to the picture you want
and follow instructions.
-
Remember--to find the picture
you want you may have to "go back" a few folders to find the particular
folder where your picture is stored. It is always a good rule to keep your
HTML files and GIF's and JPG's in the same folder on your hard disk.
-
You can experiment with the placement
of text around pictures with most editors. Remember--DO IT 3 times
and YOU will be an EXPERT!!!
-
You can test your page (off-line)
by running any browser, clicking on File/Open and browsing your hard disk
to find the file you just created & opening it in the browser.
-
In some cases, like Microsoft
Frontpage you can just click on Review and the page will appear in the
browser or with Composer just click on Preview.
-
Publishing your file...If you
are editing an Computer Club file, just attach in an E-mail to the webmaster,
and I will see to it that it gets to the server, otherwise see below:
-
Transferring the "new file" to
your ISP can be done in several ways:
-
1) Use a file transfer program
(WS-FTP) for Windows users.
-
2) Follow the directions on "Publishing"
your "new file" for Microsoft Frontpage users and some Free ISP's.
-
Once uploaded to your ISP, you
can type in the URL of your new site on any browser and you have created
your Home Page on the Internet.

CONGRATULATIONS...
