June Meeting:

Richard Katz, Microsoft Corporation was our guest this month. Richard gave an excellent presentation about MSN's web services and connected on-line to MSN's free and premium services. He described the ease of use whereby the user can customize their needs for information sources on the web.

Also, Richard demonstrated the ease in which digital photographs could be displayed with audio and other transitions. Various computer packages were won by the members in a raffle. Thanks to the Microsoft Corporation and in particular to--Richard--for their time and effort in the presentation...

May Meeting:

Burning CD's and DVD's

Professor Don Raun, Retired Professor of Computer Science at California State University at Northridge presented a program showing how to burn both CD's and DVD's.

He gave a power-point presentation displaying the various types of CD's and DVD's and gave examples of the Roxio Easy CD and DVD software.

Don also indicated that our club computers now have the availablility to burn both CD's and DVD's from our two computer laboratories. Members need to become certified in order to use these new facilities.

A large turnout of computer club members were treated to the excellent power point presentation and Don answered as many questions as time allowed.

April Meeting:

Palomar College's ROP Program

Jackie Martin-Klement, Assistant Professor at Palomar College presented a program explaining the Regional Occupational Program (ROP), a federally-funded program which includes computer training.

She gave a power-point presentation displaying the various disciplines that are taught in this program, with interesting examples of power point slide shows that students have developed through the computer classes.

Computer classes, including the new Microsoft Office Suite 2003, are available to all ages - both day and night - and are cyclical throughout the year, making the ROP program a truly valuable asset to the community…and it is free, except for the cost of the books.

A large turnout of computer club members were treated to her excellent power point presentation and Jackie answered as many questions as time allowed. Thanks, Jackie for taking the time to explain the Palomar College ROP Program.

Dorothy Miller, (Our Vice-President) presented an informative program regarding the options present with the various Email clients/programs. She had documented the differences in most of the popular Email systems, including web mail systems.

A large turnout of computer club members were treated to her excellent power point presentation and Dorothy answered as many questions as time allowed. Thanks, Dorothy for taking the time to explain the intracacies of the most important application of the World Wide Web--Email...

February Meeting:

MANAGING YOUR INVESTMENTS
WITH THE SCHWAB WEB-SITE

Ron Scherdorf (Carlsbad Office) presented an excellent presentation to a large crowd of members at the February meeting. Ron explained how to use the Schwab & Co.'s web site, to not only monitor your investments, but how to make better choices by utilizing the wealth of information on their site.

Ron did a great job in answering member's questions, which ranged from simple to very complicated techniques for monitoring our investments. We all learned something new about how to use the web site as well as an awareness of what we should all be doing to protect our investments.

Many thanks to Laura Peterson (Rancho Bernardo Office) and Brent DeVore who were also in attendance to assist in the presentation. Pictured at the right is Laura's proud father, Dick Travis, who also happens to be the webmaster for the Ocean Hills Computer Club.

January Meeting:

Computer Security and Viruses

Paul Van Middlesworth from the Computer Factory in San Marcos presented an interesting and informative program regarding Computer Security and Viruses. Not only was it timely, but our members turned out in great numbers for the first program of the year.

Paul explained how his company was formed almost 10 years ago and summarized his very extensive background in computers. He fielded many questions from our members regarding how to deal with the worsening problem of computer viruses, hoaxes and spyware.
