Kendall Dawson presented a very interesting topic, all about the new alternative for Computer users--The Linspire Operating System. He showed us how easy it is to use the Linspire operating system as an alternative to Windows or Mac computers. The popular Linspire software is run under the "open source" Linux base system, but is as easy as the familiar look and feel of Windows or Mac computers.
Kendall fielded many questions from our members, and everyone went home with a book and CD to try the system.
Later in the year, workshops will be scheduled for those people who want to learn more about this software. A big thank you toKendall and Aurelia for an excellent presentation. Over 100 members were in attendance, and many stayed after to enjoy the excellent treats beautifully prepared by our own Shirley Williams.

The
OHCC Golf Club
Computer Scoring System
by: Scott Sloan

Scott Sloan gave us an excellent presentation of the Golf Club's Scoring System which he developed over the last year and a half. This system was developed entirely with EXCEL and includes all of the possible golf games that are played during a yearly season.
Scott made extensive use of EXCEL's macros, which he demonstrated the ease and, of course, the difficulty in writing such a large system. Scott used the Visual BASIC computer language to write the macros.
The Golf Club now makes use of this computer system all most every day and it not only saves time for the golfers, but for the many volunteers who manage the tournaments.
Hal Phillips congratulated Scott on the work that he put into this project and thanked him from everyone in the Golf Club. Many questions were asked about the system and EXCEL in particular by the members.
